Do you have links on your site? If so, how many? Do you have a sitemap? Can a search engine
spider or bot find it's way around your site easily through your linking system? How about
links from other websites. These are some questions you need to ask yourself as you plan
your linking stategy. Google, the popular search engine these days, places importance on
relevant links to your site from other sites.
Linking is one of the most important facets of search engine optimization and site design.
The way you link, as well as the words you link with, can really make a difference. Links
that say: "Click here," are of little use to search engines. You don't want your pages
listed under "Click here". Link your pages with link labels that contain meaty keywords.

People have rigged all kinds of link farms, and link programs designed to trick or deceive
the search engines. The search engines are getting wise to these schemes, and banning sites
from their engines. There are also programs that automatically help you set up links from
other sites. These programs may be perfectly acceptable, but I do not recommend this type
of linking strategy. Use your own judgment.
Whatever you decide, you need to spend much of your time in search engine optimization,
working and reworking your linking stategy. I have read about a linking stategy, where the
webmaster links all the pages of the site in such a way as to steer people toward the most
important content. This is a very good idea, but it takes a lot of work. Beware of doorway
pages. These are pages created solely for the purpose of getting listed in the search engines.
Relevant content is important and required by most search engines, especially Google, the
premier search engine at this time.
