One of the great things about the internet is all the free stuff. I have found some excellent
free text programs, that are as good as many paid programs. Just because it's free, doesn't
mean it's inferior to other programs. Free is good!
AbiWord is a free word processor, that includes many of the bells and whistles you find in
Microsoft® Word. This award winning application has all the features you need and expect from a good word processor.
How can it be free? I quote from the AbiWord website:
"AbiWord has been created by a worldwide group of volunteers and currently supports many
languages and operating systems."
"AbiWord is GNU Free Software software, which means that you will always have the freedom to
use it, make copies of it, and improve it. You are encouraged to make use of these freedoms
and share the program with your family and friends!"
So, if you want to check it out, head on over to their website,

Another great word processing program is WordTabs. Described as Windows' Notepad and Wordpad on steroids.
Configure windows to use WordTabs as your default word processor and text editor. Download it at

NotesPad Text Editor is a popular free text editor, and as the name implies, it is intended to be
an alternative to Windows Notepad. It has excellent reviews, and is completely free. You can
download NotesPad at http://www.newbie.net/NotesPad/index.html.
Another award winning program is NoteTab Light 4.95. This little creature has some really nice
features. There are also some paid versions of NoteTab on their website at a reasonable price,
but the free one works for me. You can download NoteTab Light 4.95 at
http://www.notetab.com
How bout WordWeb 2.2? This freeware thesaurus/dictionary can be used from you word processor,
or as a standalone application. Download it from Tucows.
Remember, if you notice new problems with your computer after installing any software, this
might mean you have a bad install. This can happen when you install anything, including windows.
If this happens, simply uninstall the software, and install it again.
Several other word processors and text editors programs are available on the web. Just do a search
in your favorite search engine. Good luck!
